Soccer with Gian
Today we had a mini soccer workshop with Gian. First the children learned the NO HANDS rule. Then they practiced maneuvering the ball with heads, bellies, backsides and feet. Children were divided into groups of three's to practice passing. Everyone had a chance to score a goal and do a "goal dance". Finally, the group hand shake. It was great fun and exercise!

Community Helpers
Community Helpers
Wednesday we met on the Common and visited with Community Helpers. The first stop was the Town Hall. Leslie, the Town Clerk, showed us her huge book of birth certificates and the town seal. Becky, the Town Administrator, set up a mock Select Board meeting. Three children sat on the Select Board. The rest of the group attended Town Meeting. The pretend scenario was whether or not to build a bridge over a destroyed road. The majority voted in favor of the bridge! The next stop was the Spears Library. Maryanne read to the group. After a quick snack we visited the Post Office. Marie, gave us a tour, pointing out the elegant, antique mail boxes. The final stop was behind the Town Hall. Chief Tibbits demonstrated how he put on, and used all of his protective gear. The highlight of the morning was climbing in and out of the fire engine!

Self-Portraits
The children drew self-portraits in the Art Studio last week with B.Z. Before they began, the children looked in the mirror and examined and felt their facial features. They read about Picasso and looked at his work. The portraits were put in the frames they made the previous week inspired by the lines and dots Matisse used in his work.
The project reflects each child's unique character. Amazing work!
