The fierce March (and April) winds inspired us to focus on, and experiment with the force of air and gravity. We made flubber and watched air bubbles emerge when the flubber was stretched over a cup. We made spinning wheels, parachutes and kites. Blowing up and playing with balloons led to many interesting discoveries and discussions.

Yum!
We set our pinwheels out in the wind. Next week parachutes and kites. These brisk, breezy days are great for our experiments with the wind.

Pinata Celebration
Today we had a very special birthday celebration. One of our classmates brought in a pinata to share. The children were very excited. Everyone participated in the event, taking turns hitting the pinata. The children watching cheered for the slugger. The parents taught us a song to sing in Spanish as part of the tradition.

The Band
The children have put together a band with the musical instruments that they made. Daphne wrote a song for us which features every instrument playing in the piece. The photos are of our first practice session. We are hoping to prepare a short performance for families.

Musical Adventures
Here are some photos of the class engaged in our study of sound and music. Children made, played and paraded around using their zithers, digerdos, bells and drums. The Springfield Symphony Orchestra's Musical Petting Zoo visited today. Pictures of that event are included.
