Footprints

As an introduction to a study on tracking and animal habitats children printed their footprints on paper. We compared their footprints to deer prints, rabbit prints and woodchuck prints. In our discussion, children noticed the difference between prints made while walking and prints made by jumping. We discussed the shape of the foot, the print of the toes and the different sizes of the footprints. This led to the question, "What can we learn about animals when we look at their footprints?" We will continue this exploration over the next few weeks, focusing on animals that live in Shutesbury.
